Abyss scheduled to record on CIUT's Equalizing x Distort

Equalizing Distort is an underground music focused radio show that has been broadcasting on CIUT since the late 90s. The program airs every Sunday night at 10pm, and plays a variety of music with deviant predispositions: from punk, hardcore, grindcore, garage, d-beat, etc. Usually every program has a "Demo Feature" in which it plays a selected band's demo in its entirety - "Accursed Followers" was featured upon its release a couple of years ago.

On occasion, the program additionally schedules bands to come in and record a set live off of the floor at CIUT, followed by interview, to be aired on a Sunday at a later date.  A similar concept to that of the 'Peel Sessions',  EQXD has produced some great recordings - (the SKEW-G recording comes to mind, from way back.) Both Pick Your Side, and Hassler have recently been recorded and aired...

Abyss is scheduled record on Equalizng X Distort on February 5th, this will be aired shortly thereafter. I will be posting details about air dates, etc, as they become available.

EQUALIZING X DISTORT 89.9 FM, CIUT

Additionally, we still have plans to record, they have been pushed back into early 2013. We likely will not be playing live until this time again as well.

"Another stellar death metal offering from Canada. Abyss pummels the listener with nine tracks of uptempo death metal with just the right amount of punkish-edge that will leave you wanting more. Keep an eye out for Abyss and they will surely be a force in years to come. Features David from Rammer/Slaughter Strike on vocals. Pro-pressed, pro-printed and limited to 250 copies."

I know I've posted this before, but....

The official release of THE REINS OF HORROR via Dark Descent should be released in the coming weeks. The recording is well over a year old now, so we're glad to see some movement here. You will be able to order it from Dark Descent directly, or us as well....Also, we still have a few copies of the 'unofficial' version available - This cover features art from Toronto's Trevor Henderson, as opposed to the Dark Descent release that features art by Joshy of Washington Dc's ILSA.  So, onwards....

We've upped then entire recording on the Abyss Bandcamp page...it should be available to download, but I've found that downloads on bandcamp can be a bit temperamental at times, so in the next week or two I will post the full recording here for download via mediafire as a zipped MP3 file with PDF cover art. If you'd prefer a WAV format, just email us, we'll send it your way.   I also plan to post the Accursed Followers recording on bandcamp as well.

We killed the MYSPACE page.

We won't be playing any shows for a minute, although we have some tentative plans for a small tour of Ontario and Quebec with a band TBA in the fall (EDIT: THIS HAS BEEN POSTPONED),  we'll be focused on writing new material for a tentatively planned recording in early December 2012. We're all pretty chuffed on the new material, it's more focused than before.

We still have Chalice of Scum shirts available, though the long sleeves are sold out.

Pictures from the Chromium Dioxide Release Party July 28th

The Chromium Party was great - Philthy quietly and abruptly moved to Antarctica at the last minute, after being offered some mysterious "Job", which I'm told- he reluctantly took after months of deliberation.  Here are a few select shots taken by Kevin Nunes of the Obscene Requiem set.

This one in particular takes the cake:

Abyss at the Loud House - Mtl, Pq.

Here are some photos from the show we played in Montreal recently with PROXY, and S.H.I.T. We had a great time, thanks to everyone at the LOUD HOUSE for being really cool people, sharing gear, feeding us, and giving us free beer all night! We all had a fucking blast.

Also, If you'd like to pick up a limited edition ABYSS - THE REINS OF HORROR cassette, a small number are now available at HITS AND MISSES in Toronto for $5. We'll also have tapes at the show next week (HARD LUCK BAR) along with the new shirts and long sleeve tees.

Chalice of Scum

New Shirts will be available next week. We'll have all  sizes (S,M,L,XL), as well as a limited run of Long Sleeves which will feature the 'Abyss' logo on one sleeve, and the 'Obscene Requiem' logo on the other in addition to the main graphic. The 'Horrified Priest' design was done by Toronto's own Trevor Henderson, who, as you can see - enjoys the macabre...

The Shirts will be available at shows, or you can also order them through us via email (paypal), We might put some on commission at Eyesore Cinema, and Hits and Misses, depending how quantities last at the next few shows.

We are also doing a VERY limited (Unofficial) run of 'The Reins of Horror' cassette which will only be available at shows.

Oh shit. GIGS.

Hello husks. Just a quick update here: We have some GIGS planned tentatively:

July 14th - MONTREAL, at the LOUD HOUSE with SHIT (Toronto), PROXY
July 28th - TORONTO, HARD LUCK BAR, CHROMIUM DIOXIDE RELEASE PARTY with FLYING FORTRESS
Aug 15th - TORONTO, THE 460, with MURDERESS

We shall post more details as plans become solidified. Still no word from Dark Descent for a release date for "The Reins of Horror", but we are busy working on new material, with plans to record in this fall (hopefully).

Also, no more Facebook page. Fuck Facebook. Far too much emphasis is placed on how many "likes" you have as a measure of a bands worth, the music is placed second, it seems.

We had 79 "Likes" by the end of it.

We really could not be fucked to spend any time networking on this medium: status updates, feeds, Witty retorts, insights, links to twitter, etc. The timeline was really the last nail in the coffin.

So from here on out, you can check in on what we're doing on this blog, or on the Abyss bandcamp page.

Stay flossy.

They were cool. Wasn't down with the spitting and bottle throwing though.

No shit....and who the fuck is, really?  Cheers to Telephone Explosion for having us out, and Duffy's Tavern who had put up with us that night! Aside from getting piss soaked in the pouring rain, being ID'd at the bar by the 12 year old bartender, Duffy's lacking the apparent technology to play our intro (an aux connector for an ipod), and a slight gear mishap, it was a great fucking show. Also, I'm not really sure who is responsible for the above photo, it's fucking great too, so thanks to them!

There is video footage from the show lurking around somewhere....we will most likely post it.

Lastly, we have a band camp page: Abyss Bandcamp

Toronto NO Thaw Festival May 3rd

Tomorrow is the opening day of the 2nd annual Toronto (NO) Thaw festival - a three day festival that showcases a variety of different local bands, that might not ordinarily play together, and puts them on one bill - an assertive attempt at breaking up the homogeneity that can be Toronto music scene.
Abyss will be on around 11:30pm. There are 5 bands on this bill, but most, to my knowledge, have extremely short sets (ours included).  Also, this is slighted to have a large turnout, so it is suggested that you arrive sooner than later if you wish to savor our Obscene Requiem.

In other news, we are working towards booking a Montreal gig in July of 2012. We will keep you posted.

Bloody Hell!!!!!!

Abyss will be playing the Toronto (No)Thaw Festival on May 3rd with Urban Blight, S.H.I.T, and a couple of others at Duffy's Tavern. We're also discussing a Montreal date in May as well. More details to come.

In other news: Check out this Abyss endorsed tumblr page.  It might make you think about which t-shirts you decide to pack for this year's MDF.

Caveat: This page may offend some 20+ year old virgin metalheads. metal is awful.

The Reins of Horror

The cover art and cassette layout are complete, both they and the masters of the recording have been submitted to Dark Descent Records, this should be seeing the light of day very soon.  For those that bought the limited the promo copy of the cassette from us at shows will notice that there are additional tracks as well as new cover art. We're excited that this is underway, as we can now fully concentrate on new material and booking new shows with our current line up. Thanks to Chorazaim whom we all enjoyed working with!
